Scripture

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Romans 5:1 (ESV)

A World Full of Anxiety

There are countless things that each of us, as individuals, experience that can cause anxiety, turmoil, fear, and all sorts of negative emotions throughout our day. Whether that is a hard conversation, a poor performance on a test or work event, or even something simple like having a bad sleep. It’s something every human experiences. And if you don’t experience any of these emotions, I’d love to get your number and figure out what you’re doing.

As we go about life, we are bound to encounter these emotions. And the reality is, they can affect our day very quickly.

For example, my wife has a natural tendency to be a people pleaser. She finds it difficult at times to have hard conversations or say no. When something is weighing on her that requires confrontation, it can create a lot of internal stress. It sits in her mind, and peace feels distant.

But over time, she has grown tremendously. She has started to understand that even in those difficult conversations, she can still have peace with God. Not because the situation is easy, but because her foundation is rooted in Him. When her intentions are pure, when she has prayed through the situation, and when her faith is in Christ, she is able to move forward with a sense of peace instead of fear.

Understanding the Source of Peace

Let’s break down what this verse is really saying.

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith…”

The key phrase here is “justified by faith.” This means we have been declared righteous in the eyes of God. Not because of how good we are. Not because of how consistent we are. But because of our faith in Him.

“Therefore” is simply connecting this truth to everything Paul has already explained. Because we have been justified by faith, something follows.

“We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

This is the outcome. Because of our faith, our relationship with God is restored. We are no longer striving to earn His approval. We are no longer living under condemnation or spiritual tension. We are at peace with Him.

And that peace comes through Jesus Christ. He paid the penalty for our sin. He made justification possible. Because of His sacrifice, we can stand in a relationship with God that is secure and grounded in peace.

Living with Peace Daily

So what does this mean for us in our everyday lives?

We are constantly facing situations that can disrupt our peace. A stressful Monday morning. A difficult conversation. A big test. A moment of uncertainty. These things can quickly shift our emotions and pull us into anxiety.

But this verse reminds us that our peace is not rooted in our circumstances. It is rooted in our relationship with God.

When we remember that we are justified by faith, we can approach those situations differently. We can pray. We can center ourselves. We can trust that God has a plan, even when we don’t fully understand it.

That doesn’t mean the situation goes away. But it does mean we don’t have to face it alone or carry the weight of it ourselves.

Today’s Encouragement

As you go about your day, when anxiety starts to rise, pause.

Remind yourself of this truth: you have peace with God.

Take a moment to pray. Realign your thoughts. Trust Him with what’s ahead.

In a world full of anxiety, true peace is not found in avoiding difficult moments. It’s found in remembering who you belong to.
